Martyn Dunne
Martyn Dunne, CNZM, QSO, has extensive experience spanning defence, diplomacy, customs/border, and primary industries. He consults across various organisations, specialising in governance, management, strategy and leadership of large complex entities.
Martyn's notable roles include Director-General (CEO) of The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), NZ High Commissioner to Australia, and Comptroller and CEO of NZ Customs. He has chaired the World Customs Organisation (WCO) and contributed to various international forums such as the Australian/New Zealand Business Forum and the US/NZ Forum.
With a 33-year career in the New Zealand Army, including service with the NZ Special Air Service (SAS), Martyn commanded the deployment of New Zealand Forces in East Timor and established a single New Zealand Joint Forces Command as a Major General.
Martyn holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from La Trobe University and is affiliated with organisations like the Institute of Directors and the Institute of Managers and Leaders. He chairs the NZSAS Charitable Trust and is Chair of the Royal NZ Returned Services Association (RNZRSA).
As an assessor for the LGNZ Te Korowai programme, Martyn brings a nuanced understanding of local government, primary industry, and regulatory landscapes to assessments, striving for clear communication and a balanced approach.
Despite his busy schedule, Martyn enjoys physical activities like running, skiing, and boating, alongside interests in art and spending time with family, including grandchildren.
